When I first heard about having to do a senior project, I didn’t know what to expect. I read through the criteria and was super worried because it seemed like a lot of work, which it is. I didn’t think that I would ever be able to meet the required amount of hours. As I get closer to the end of this project I am realizing that it isn’t as hard as you think if you just put forth a little effort and now I am feeling like I will need more time to complete this project. It has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

I have been in the process of drawing my final product of my blueprint of a 1600 square foot house. This may change, if needed, for spacing in cabinets and walls dimensions. Drawing this house has been quite an experience and is really fun. It is definitely something I might be interested in the future and it will hopefully come out to be something nice.
I am taking my sample floor plan of the house that I want to draw and drawing it in Auto-cad. First I have to draw an outline so I use what is called the distance tool. This tool tells me how long each side of the house is so I can draw it. Once I get the walls drawn I will put the inside walls in with dimensions. After that I have to put in the doors to the house. It is important that you know what size of doors you need for each opening because they are different sizes for the bathroom and certain closets. Now that the house is completely outlined I can put in the garage and add the doors that I will use for that. This is as far as I have gotten so far and am ready to continue.
Now that I have contacted my mentor and have the software all set up and ready to draw, it is time to figure out how to use it. I had to sit and watch tutorials for a few hours on how to use the tools in the program to build the house. They tell you everything about how to build a wall and what all you want to have to make it efficient. Once I finished watching the tutorials I had to find a house as a guideline that I wanted to design on the software. This will help me to finish my product.
This week I finally met with my mentor to get plans figured out on how I am going to pursue my project on drawing a blueprint. I had to get some paperwork signed showing that I had met with him. Then we took my computer and downloaded the CAD software which I will be drawing my blueprint in. We also decided when we will be meeting next so that we have plenty of time to do the project. I learned that drawing the house won't be hard. It is knowing how to use the software that people have a hard time with. I hope that this will be a great learning experience and maybe it can spark something in my future.
Now that I have finished my research paper it is time to start my physical part of the project. I am going to draw a house out on an official blueprint, but first I have to do lots of other things. Before I can start my project I will have to talk to my mentor and tell him exactly what my project is about so that he can assist me with my project. Then I will have to have him fill out papers that say I have been working with him on it. Once all the paperwork is done all I have left to do is draw the physical project on a CAD software that is run on a computer. CAD stands for Computer Automated Drawing. Almost all house or building blueprints are drawn on computers with the advancement of technology. I hope that my experience in this project will help me decide what I want to do in the future.
One thing that I overlooked while I was doing my senior project was correcting my research paper. Mrs. Steckly is the teacher who is guiding us through our corrections. She is very specific when correcting the paper. She spent almost 4 hours of her time and mine just reading through it word by word making corrections. I didn't realize what it took to correct it. I ended up having almost 2 hours worth of corrections and I think that is a lot. Make sure that you allow for time to correct because you will have a lot of corrections. It will seem like a lot, but in the end it is worth it. You will have a great paper when you are finished.
I have finally decided what I am going to do for the product for my senior project! I am going to draw a completed blueprint of a house. The first step to any project is figuring out how much it will cost. I have found out that it will cost me hardly anything at all. All I will need is my computer and a printer. The reason that I need a computer is because I will be drawing the house on an online computer drafting program. This is what almost all builders use these days with the advancements of technology. I have chosen a mentor that has had experience doing this as well. One thing that I feel is going to be hard is where to start. There are so many parts to a house. I hope that my mentor can assist me in this process. I hope when I get finished I will like the results that come from it.
For my senior project this year I have been working on a research paper about Energy Efficiency in Residential Homes. While doing this I have been finding sources that deal with this. Once I found the sources, I had to start taking notes from these sources to be able to finish my paper. We are required to have ten sources and 40 note cards on them. When taking notes, you have to copy the words out of the sources word for word and then once you have finished, you will then take all of them and paraphrase them and put them into your paper. This definitely is not fun but in the end it might be an experience I will never forget.
Over the past few days I have been doing some research over architecture. One thing that I have found interesting is how builders are trying to make homes more energy efficient. I decided to do my research paper on Energy Efficiency in Residential Construction. I going to draw an automated computer design of a house that is the best possible for energy efficiency. I have been looking around for the cost of the materials I will need and what they will cost. I have found out that I will just need a computer and a printer and paper so the cost will be minimal. I really want to finish this because I want to be able to maybe someday build this house myself and live in it!
